In 2025, Penrith Players received a large £118,000 grant from the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, funded by UK Government and supported by Westmorland and Furness
Council. This generous grant has supported a facilities enhancement project that has helped transform our beloved Penrith Playhouse.
First, it has funded entirely new flexible retractable seating, which was installed in August 2025. The new seating has a capacity of 170 theatre style, but when retraced allows the Playhouse to host cabaret-style evenings or dance events. The
Second, we used the opportunity to enhance the stage lighting and introduce extra ventilation into the theatre to improve the experience of visitors.
Finally, the project has led to a complete make-over of external signage and lighting, the front door, the entrance hall area and the bar. The works were completed in September 2025 and included new flooring and lighting, complete redecoration and new furniture.
The improvements will enhance us to deliver more and better creative production and increase the usage of the Playhouse, fulfilling its role as a cultural centre for Penrith.
